While we hope for a mild hail season, we have already seen a significant number of claims due to storms in May. RMIIA provides some eye-opening statistics. "Did you know that, apart from the May 22, 2008 Windsor tornado and the July 29, 2009 hail storm in Pueblo, Colorado's ten most costly hail storms have occurred in the Denver Metro area? This makes sense as it is where the largest concentration of property in the state is located. The hail storm on May 8, 2017, in the Denver Metro area cost insurance companies 2.3 billion dollars. Colorado's damaging hail season typically spans from mid-April to mid-September. The Front Range of Colorado is located in the heart of "Hail Alley," which experiences the highest frequency of large hail in North America and much of the world. Residents in this area can usually expect three or four catastrophic hailstorms (defined as causing at least $25 million in insured damage) each year. Over the past decade, hailstorms have resulted in more than $5 billion in insured damage in Colorado. If you have comprehensive coverage on your auto policy, hail damage is covered by nearly all insurance companies. Although comprehensive insurance is optional, it is recommended by the insurance industry if you live in a hail-prone area."

As an empty nester with two grown sons, Preston (28) and Carson (21), I find joy in the company of my two adorable French Bulldogs, Banks and Rocco.
